Kansas City Trip: KC Wheel, the Rabbit Hole, Nelson-Atkins Art Museum

By Mary Monahan April 26, 2024

We took our third family trip to Kansas City over a weekend in April and visited all new places! Thinking of going? Here are our reviews of activities to do there.

The Rabbit hOle-Rabbit Hole- a children’s book museum is nothing short of magical. You go IN the book. I don’t know who loved it more-adults or kids! The artistry is simply incredible. I can’t wait to go back. This museum just opened and inside you will find all kind of childhood favorites. My heart skipped a beat seeing "Harry the Dirty Dog;" my mom used to read that book to us over and over. One of the many highlights is the Great Green Room featuring "Goodnight Moon." This museum is especially great for kids because you are encouraged to interact and touch everything. And if you have a tween or teen, they will love it (is a selfie dream). Admission is $16/person, under 2 is free. We spent two hours at this museum. Learn more here.

KC Wheel-The KC Wheel is 150-foot-tall ferris wheel in downtown Kansas City. It is covered in LED lights and lights up the sky at night. We rode it during the day and it has great views. You are in your own gondola and they have AC/heat with music. For the price of your admission you go around 4-5 times and it is 12-15 minutes in length. $17 for adults and $13.50 for children. We went during the day and didn't have to wait. You can buy tickets online or at the door.

Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art-This stop a win-win for us. I love visiting art museums and there was a mini golf course on site for the kids. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is a gem. It has free admission and it is HUGE. My hope was to see a Monet and we did! After going through several galleries, we went out onto the lawn and signed up for the art course. It is so fun; it is designed around art in the museum. We had three hours here and could have been here longer. Admission price Adults: $18, Ages 4–12: $12, Ages 3 and Under are free.
