Have you ever visited the Spring Creek Prairie Audobon Center? It is a gorgeous area nestled 20 miles southwest of Lincoln, near Denton. Our first visit to SCP was for a We visited on Firefly Picnic when our daughters were young. We had no idea what to expect as we'd never been there. It was absolutely lovely.

Directions and Parking: You need to follow the directions on their website. It isn't something that you will stumble onto; you need to be looking for it. After you arrive, you'll find a large gravel parking lot with paths that lead to the Visitors Center.

Visitors Center: The Visitors Center is like a small science museum. My kids enjoyed playing in the different exhibits for about a half an hour. The Visitors Center also has a gift shop, restrooms and a meeting area.

Outside Area: It is beautiful. From the Visitors Center you look out onto a small pond, rolling hills and trees. There are paths mowed out of the natural long grasses. You can imagine what Nebraska looked like a hundred years ago.

Cost: FREE

Events: Spring Creek hosts events, like the Firefly Picnic, that we attended. Visitors can also drop in for the day and just explore. They have backpacks loaded up with all the supplies you need to go and discover nature. You can even choose a theme such as "Botanist" or "Artist." The best part? The backpacks are free to use.

Cons: The only downside to Spring Creek are the bugs. There are lot of them during certain times of year usually summer.

Overall: I love Spring Creek Prairie and always leave feeling rejuvenated.
