ROAD TRIP DENVER: Museum of Nature & Science, Zoo, Aquarium and More!

Going to Denver anytime soon? We have family in Colorado and we visit the area a few times a year. Here are some of our places to visit with our kids when we go.

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science- I adore this museum. My kids love exploring it and my husband and I leave with new knowledge. If you want to, you could spend an entire day here. This museum has a "Discovery Zone" for kids which is almost a Children's Museum in itself. We loved the "Expedition Health" and if we had had more time (you would need at least one hour) we would have completed it. My children's favorite area was (surprise, surprise) the Prehistoric Journey. Dinosaurs! They also have an IMAX and a Planetarium.

Tip: If you belong to Morrill Hall, the admission to this museum is FREE. You read that right-FREE. We saved $34.00 and we didn't feel guilty about only spending three hours there because we got in for FREE! A Morrill Hall Family membership is $50/year. A family of four will spend $42 for admission to DMNS. Plus you can use your Morrill Hall membership to attend their great events like "Sunday with a Scientist."

The Denver Zoo-The Zoo is conveniently located next to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. It is open year-round and offers lots of animals. This is a walking zoo so I would recommend a stroller or wagon. The zoo is located in the gorgeous City Park which is an attraction on its own. This zoo does not participate in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums so you will pay full price to attend. For a family of four you can expect to pay $40.

Tip: This is a good zoo but I feel like I've been spoiled by the Henry Zoorly Zoo and if I had to choose between the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the Denver Zoo, I would choose the museum.

The Downtown Aquarium-They have mermaids. Yes, you read that right. Mermaids. And these mermaids are not using scuba gear or snorkels. They swim 15 feet down into exhibits and wave to your children while lip synching to songs. Afterwards they do meet-n-greets with kids. My kids (and every other kid at the museum) freaked out when they saw them. I would go again just so my daughters could see them. The aquarium is expensive, $60 for a family of four. You will also have to pay to park which is $7. It offers different animals and landscapes from the Henry Doorly Zoo Aquarium.

Tip: If you like aquariums or if you have a child that is obsessed with mermaids, this place is great. I would really like to go again but I won't be going unless I have a coupon.

Second Home Restaurant-This restaurant has a Sunday event called Pajama Brunch. They block off part of the restaurant and it is a kid zone. The kids watch a movie, color and enjoy a free breakfast (as long as they are in their pjs and under 8 years of age) while parents eat a delicious brunch. It is from 7:00 AM-2:00 PM. I would go here every Sunday. The food is great and you can keep an eye on your kids while they have fun in the kids room.

Tip: Make a reservation; it is packed. Kids MUST wear pajamas to receive a free breakfast.
