Check-In Outside: Usually, you walk through a fitness center to access the outside pool. If you have young children this can be a journey similar to a pioneer crossing America. Not anymore! At the Fallbrook YMCA, you can check-in and enter the pool from an outside entrance. Park your car, walk across the parking lot, down a sidewalk and check-in!
Bring Your Diving Toys, Not Your Noodles: Bring your fun swimming toys like diving rings and pails to scoop and pour water. Only Coast Guard approved flotation devices are allowed (like puddle jumpers) at the pool so no noodles, rings or mats.
Fun In The Sun: Bring sunscreen and a hat. There is very little shade at this pool. There are no trees or umbrellas (too windy) and the shade from the YMCA complex doesn't cover the pool until late in the day.
Not Too Deep: When the YMCA planned this pool they took into account how many young kids use the shallow areas at other pools and made their shallow area very large. There are still swim lanes but the shallow area takes up a greater footprint than many other pools in our area. It is great for younger kids! Additionally, the deepest part of the pool is 4'6".
Outside Food: You can bring in outside food (thank goodness). Fallbrook YMCA asks that food be eaten in the picnic area. There are vending machines located inside the building but no concessions.
BYOT-Bring your own towel to the Fallbrook YMCA pool. No white fitness towels allowed in the pool area.
Accessible Bathrooms: The bathrooms at the Fallbrook YMCA are next to the pool. Not in a separate building, not across the property but next to the pool. If you've ever had to get three kids out of a pool (two of whom don't have to go to the bathroom), then walk them for 10 minutes to a bathroom, only to start the process over again 20 minutes later, you know what a big deal this is.
The planning and design of this pool was very thoughtful to make sure that it is family-friendly. A thumbs up from us!
