April & May Babysitter Worthy Events

By Mary Monahan April 13, 2017

The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming-spring is here! It is time to go on date. These events are not your standard dinner and a movie. In the winter, we have a hard time getting out of the house. It's just so cold. But now we have no excuse to not go on a date because there are not only awesome date nights coming up but there also places for you to drop-off your kids.

Catsino- Do you like cats? What about gambling? Imagine if there was a night where those two came together? Well, there is! And it's called Catsino (it couldn't get any better, could it?). The Cat House, a 501(c)(3) non-profit no-kill feline shelter and adoption facility in Lincoln, will be hosting Catsino Night on Friday, April 28. The night will include poker, blackjack, roulette, high-low, craps, and BINGO. Poker chips will be earned by winning at the various games and then cashed in for raffle tickets equivalent to their winnings value. The raffle tickets will then be used to win any number of prizes. To learn more click here.

Last Adult Skate Night at Skate Zone- My kids adore Skate Zone and they are so sad that it is being torn down. At our school fundraiser nights, so many parents talk about going there when they were kids. Relive the magic of roller skating the night away at their Last Adult Skate Night on April 27th at 8:30 PM. Only $6 plus skate rental.

Paper Floral Crown Making-Ok, this event is more of a Mom's Night Out activity but who says you can't go on a date with your friends! Plus, it's during brunch which is one of my favorite times of day. Floral crowns are all the rage from the pages of magazines to warm summer picnics in secret gardens...Join us to create your own paper floral headpiece. Bring your friends for mimosas and merriment. Selfie frames available to share pictures from your creative morning!Supplies, mimomas, juice, assorted fruit and mini muffins included. Enjoy this morning event on April 30th.

Extending Our Table: A Happy Hour in Support of Lincoln's Refugees- A date night and a way to help others? It's a win/win! For over 50 years, Lincoln has offered a safe haven and welcoming community for refugees—those individuals who are designated by the United Nations as “the world’s most vulnerable citizens.” Join your fellow Lincolnites on May 18th at 5:30 PM in supporting refugees.

Sunset Guided Hike-I don't even think I need to write anymore. That title sounds so romantic! Enjoy a guided hike at the Nature Center while the sun slips below the horizon and dusk falls on the landscape. Witness the changes in the sights and sounds as day becomes night at the Nature Center. This lovely event takes place April 21st from 7:30-9:00 PM and is one of our least expensive at $8.

Make Your Own Terrarium or Flower Garden- Terrariums are so beautiful and the perfect plant, even for people who kill most plants. This activity is great for two people (or you can each make your own). It is creative and you get to build something together. Oak Creek offers these classes one Saturday each month thru August from 10:00-12:00 noon. Your fee covers all supplies and the next class is May 6th. Call the store to sign up-402-421-2999.

Birds, Bark & Brews-Do you want an outdoors date? Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center is hosting this event with Blue Blood Brewery. Justin Evertson, an expert from the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, will lead a stroll around Van Dorn Park, teaching about the trees and birds in the area, ending up at Blue Blood Brewery for some delicious brews and eats. Visit SCPAC's site to learn more.

Ok, so you have lots of dates to choose from. Now you need a sitter? Kids Park to the rescue! Kids Park is a drop-in child care center on 14th & Old Cheney. It is bright, fun, and inviting and you don't need a reservation. It is for kids aged 1.5 months thru 11 years of age. Kids can play inside and outside, have a snack, do a craft and more!
