Review: Steinhart Aquatic Center

By Mary Monahan June 13, 2018

Beach entry? Check. Lazy River? Check. Water slides? Check. Diving well? Check. Splash pad? Check. Does this pool exist? Yes! It is in Nebraska City, the Steinhart Aquatic Center.  Depending on where you live in Lincoln it will take 30-45 minutes to get to the pool.

It is a pool for the whole family. I love the design of this pool, someone was really thinking about who uses what area and what each age group needs. The beach entry has three splash pad pieces of equipment: a slide, an umbrella and a mushroom. It goes to three feet and is separated from the deep part of the pool with a long peninsula. The majority of kids in this area are younger and are with caregivers.

You know how frustrated your five year old becomes because they aren't yet tall enough for the waterslides? Steinhart has a family slide for the shorter kids to go down (or the bigger kids-everyone was on it). You can sit on mom or dad’s lap and go down or you can go down on your own if you are feeling brave! It is so much fun to go down the slide with all your kids.

In the deeper part of the pool you can swim or use the diving well which has two heights of boards. There are two water slides to go down and a lazy river. The tubes are included in the cost of admission which is $6 for kids, $7for adults and age 2 and under are free. The only downside is that you can’t bring in outside food or drink. There are concessions and they are not expensive. If you bring your own food and drink you can go out during break and eat across the street at the park and come back in.

We drove over expecting to spend two hours but ended up staying for four hours. My toddler and I stayed in the beach entry area while the older ones bounced from slide to diving board to slide. The way that the pool is laid out I could spot the kids easily. There are great sight lines. It wasn’t really crowded but we did go on a Friday. The pool and bathrooms were clean and the staff were very friendly. We will absolutely be going again!
