A Note From the Publisher: June 18, 2020

By Mary Monahan June 18, 2020

We saw fireflies two nights ago in our yard and everyone's heart lifted a bit: kids and adults. I started screaming, “Kids!! Fireflies!” and dragged everyone into the yard.  My husband thought I was crazy but they are pure magic, no matter your age.  I thought that they weren’t coming-that they had given up on us because of covid (silly, I know).

We need these magic moments in our lives, more than ever. We need to be reminded that there are beautiful, special, unique moments of pure joy and that is what fireflies are to me. When I had the Santa discussion with our oldest daughter we talked a lot about why everyone gets into Christmas and Santa and the whole thing. I told her that it is important to be able to believe in magic, to store that bit of joy in your heart somewhere because one day when you are older-there will be a time in your life when you will need to draw from that space, that tiny well because life will get really hard.

When I see fireflies, my magic well fills up and it has been depleted the last few months. I needed to hear the squeals of delight from the neighborhood kids upon seeing the flickering lights in the grass.

Have a good weekend,
Mary
