9 Disc Golf Courses in Our Area

By Mary Monahan July 9, 2020

Disc golf, or frisbee golf, is a family friendly, low cost and great socially distanced sport.

To start playing disc golf all you need is a disc; regular frisbees are not suggested. You can buy used discs from Play-It-Again sports ($10 or less) or new ones from Scheels ($15-20). Fairway drivers are suggested for new players and lighter discs (150-160 vs 175 gm). Kids should also use lighter discs. You can buy all sorts of discs and equipment on websites like Dynamic Discs (https://www.dynamicdiscs.com/). They are a local company in central KS and will deliver you discs in 2-3 days in Lincoln. If you are a beginner do not spend a lot of money on discs; odds are you will lose a disc or two.

You can use https://www.dgcoursereview.com/ to find local courses and get information about amenities on course, course maps, directions, if it is pay to play, and just useful information about course like if it is in good condition currently and kid and pet friendly. • Tierra. 9 holes but fairly wooded and family friendly. Watch out for losing discs in water though.
  • Roper East. 18 holes with 2 tee pads but more links style
  • Roper West. 18 holes with 3 tee pads and more manicured park. Red tees are more family friendly but still long.
  • Waverly. 9 hole course that is very family friendly in a nice manicured park
  • Branched Oak Lake. 9 holes and is very family friendly if the grass is mowed.
  • Mahoney. Beautiful 18 hole course that is fairly family friendly. Tall grass off of fairways is very thick.
  • Beatrice. Beautiful 18 hole course that is very long but family friendly park. Need bug spray!
  • Seward. Nice course with great park amenities. More advanced course.
  • Pawnee. Good family friendly course and nice spot for picnics

Disc golf is truly an all-ages sport. My husband is an avid disc golfer, playing in a weekly league and tournaments in the area. He turned my parents onto the sport and he now takes our daughters. His goal is to get me to play disc golf (so far he hasn't succeeded).
