4 Creeks in the Lincoln Area to Explore!

Check out these four Lincoln places where your kids can cool off

July 23, 2020

My kids adore splashing in rivers and streams and we found a couple to share with you this week where kids can splash and play.

Here are four of my family's favorite creeks in the Lincoln area to visit.

Put on a swimsuit, bring shoes good for creek walking, and don't forget snacks and sunscreen before heading out to any of these creeks! And remember, always watch your kids in water — no matter how shallow it is!

Platte River at Platte River State Park

Platte River is not technically a creek but it offers so much fun! It is worth the 30 minute drive and $6 park fee to spend a few hours playing in the river and the waterfall. Platte River is also really accessible. You enter the state park and turn to the right, follow the road and you'll see a small parking lot on your right hand side. Park there and follow the signs to the waterfall. There are port-a-potties in the parking lot for use, dogs are welcome and it is pretty easy walking and bike riding. It gets crowded on the weekends; we usually go on the weekdays or early on the weekend. If the waterfall area is crowded-just walk another 100-200 feet and odds are, you'll have plenty of space to yourself. My kids adore going here! They catch frogs, they build beaver dams, they love it.

Haines Branch at Pioneers Park

Pioneers Park offers so much! Great walking trails, indoor centers, a playground, and the creek which is so much fun. My older two have each attended camp there are their favorite day of every week is "Creeking" Day which is the day that they spend just playing in the water-catching frogs, exploring, even floating on their backs.

Antelope Creek at Union Plaza

Antelope Creek isn't a creek that you play in but you play around it. Union Plaza is a fantastic outdoor area with trails, an amazing climbing structure, fun hidden statues and more. We love to walk along Antelope Creek or play near it.

Arbor Day Tree Farm

The creek at Arbor Day Tree Farm is nameless (so far-I'm still trying to figure out its name). To play in it you will need to pay to go into Arbor Day Tree Adventure which is worth it. It is all outdoors with trails, tree houses and your admission includes access to TreeTop Village.
