A NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER: AUGUST 27, 2020

By Mary Monahan August 27, 2020

One of our neighborhood friends lost both of their front teeth recently and I love when they give a big smile and that huge gap is there. When you see the big gap, the first question is usually, "Did the tooth fairy come?" which is followed by an emphatic yes (pronounced yeth because they have no front teeth).

My friend's son lost a tooth and the tooth fairy was a week late (in the fairy's defense they were traveling). When the fairy finally arrived she left a note that said, "I'm sorry I'm so late; the coronavirus has really slowed everything down." Her son read the note and said, "I can't believe that she blamed Covid for being late!"

She told us this story at a socially distanced happy hour and it is a good thing that we were sitting six feet apart because I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my chair. Every parent can relate to this. At our house, the excuses from the tooth fairy's run the gamut from, "There was a big rain storm last night so I couldn't fly" to "Well, your room was such a mess that I couldn't come in."

My daughters have lost their front teeth and my oldest will be getting braces soon but my youngest still has his baby teeth. When he loses his front teeth I'm going to take hundreds of photos of that big gap and ask him lots of questions that result in the answer being, "yes" so I can hear the "yeths."

Have a good weekend
