Five Animal Encounters in Eastern, NE

By Mary Monahan October 1, 2020

My children love animals and are always excited about to interact with them. Some of the experiences listed are at local zoos and some are at farms. We have only been to the zoos so we now have new bucket list items to check off. Enjoy visiting the animals!

J.P. Acres Alpaca Farm-When Covid-19 began Joel Armstrong opened up his Alpaca Farm to visitors for a fun and safe experience for families. To visit the Alpaca Farm, you text 402-802-4177 with the time that you'd like to visit, 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily, and they text back a confirmation. There will be a freewill donation bucket for those willing to help support this event for all to enjoy.

Scatter Joy Acres-Scatter Joy Acres has 27 acres and lots of room for animals and farm/ranch activities, including a petting zoo. They have everything from chickens to cows, from donkeys to ducks, llamas to alpacas, and sheep to goats, and of course Ponies to a camel!

Sting Ray Beach-Stingray Beach at the Omaha Zoo is home to several different kinds of sting rays (don't worry, their barbs are removed). It is $3/members and $4/non-members to pet the string rays. They swim through the pool and glide right under your hands. We spend at least 30 minutes petting the sting rays; it is $3 well spent. You can also purchase shrimp and feed the stringrays which we did once and it was quite splashy! My daughter laughed so hard that her mask popped off because the string rays come up a few inches out of the water right to you!

Horn T Zoo-Horn T Zoo is family owned and operated in Monroe, Ne-just West of Columbus, NE. They have over 40 different species of animals-from Nebraska and around the world.

Giraffe Feed-The Lincoln Children's Zoo has an amazing giraffe feed area-suited for any type of weather-it is indoor and outdoor. It is $3 for a bundle of lettuce and totally worth it! We can't go to the zoo without feeding the giraffes.

Bring the animals to you:

Wildlife Encounters-Located in Omaha, NE. Wildlife Encounters brings the animals to you. They can attend birthday parties, library reading programs, school programs, scout programs and more! They have animals including an alligator, a Patagonian Mara, have a 7ft albino boa and more!
