Park of the Week: Fire Truck Park

By Mary Monahan January 14, 2021

This week's Park of the Week, Fire Truck Park, goes by many names. We have always called it "Fire Truck Park." When we didn't know the name our readers wrote on a Facebook post what they call it and others know it as: Memorial Park, Sand/Firetruck Park, Sheridan Park, Lead Paint Park (the lead paint is gone now), Secret Playground Park and Fire Engine Park. It is a fun park with swings, lots of sand, a pretend fire truck and an old school merry go round. The rock island trail runs parallel to it. Perfect park for younger kids!

PARKING AND LOCATION

  • There is no on-street parking or a parking lot for this park which is why it remains a secret playground for many. We park at Cathedral's parking lot (not on Sundays) and on side streets.
  • Fire Truck Park is located on S. 33rd St and High St in South Antelope Park. If you are driving by and you blink you will miss it.

SPECIAL FEATURES & PLAYGROUND NOTES

  • An old-fashioned merry-go-round is a big hit whether you are young or old
  • The fire truck is the main draw of this park with so much imaginative play happening when kids see it.
  • There is a ton of sand at this park, bring your sand toys.
  • We love to walk on the trail after playing at the park or visting the Super C for some candy.

BATHROOMS & OTHER AMENITIES

  • There are no bathrooms and no drinking fountains.
  • There are no picnic tables but lots of beautiful trees to sit under.
  • The Rock Island Trail runs parallel and it is very well maintained. Great place for a bike ride.
