Park of the Week: Rudge Park Update

By Mary Monahan May 13, 2021

Rudge Park has been redone and it is open for play!

The playground area was completely redone and now there is a small playground, swings, a viper swing, climbing equipment and more.

SPECIAL FEATURES & PLAYGROUND NOTES

  • Rudge Park is next to Stransky Park and then Irvingdale Park. You can hop on a sidewalk and walk and walk! The greenw area stretches for blocks.
  • In the middle of Rudge Park there was a wonderful, old cottonwood on an island. It reminded of the tree in the Disney movie, "It's a Bug's Life." There was something special about that tree; unfortunately, it was removed and while there has been a small tree planted there, it just isn't the same.
  • The play structure is great for younger kids (0-5)
  • The climbing tacks are so colorful! All ages can enjoy these.
  • The viper swing is the first of its kind in Lincoln
  • I really enjoyed the path at this park. It is very windy and fun to ride a bike on.

PARKING AND LOCATION

  • There is not a parking lot at this park and you need to watch signs for where to park since it is near a hospital and they need clear roads.
  • Rudge Park is on Lake St and Harrison Ave.

BATHROOMS & OTHER AMENITIES

  • There are no bathrooms
  • There are no benches or picnic tables currently. They may be adding them as the construction project continues.
  • There is a water fountain
  • There is a large covered enclosure
