A Note From the Publisher-June 17, 2021

By Mary Monahan June 17, 2021

My husband and I have coffee together every morning before our kids get up. In the winter, we have coffee in the living room but in the spring, summer and fall we sit outside. We'll wrap up in coats and blankets and make it until December before moving back in. We wave to the walkers and joggers going by, listen to the high school marching band practice in the fall and are entertained by the antics of squirrels.

Without our morning coffee sessions we wouldn't get to talk to each other one-on-one very much and somedays we wouldn't even see each other. I'm a night owl; he's a morning person (he gets up at 4:00 AM voluntarily-weird, I know).

Right now, we are having coffee in our backyard by our redbud tree. Yesterday, I saw what looked like a mini brontosaurus walking by on our coffee table. I've seen them previous summers and they always make me smile. They are the cutest insects that I have ever seen. When I see them I can’t help but sing the theme song from Jurassic Park. Turns out these tiny dinos are in fact redbud treehoppers but in my heart they will always a mini brontosaurus.

The other insect that showed up this week and made my heart happy? Fireflies! Those bugs are pure magic. I grew up in Wyoming and there are no fireflies in the West. As soon as I saw the little blinking in the yard I ran inside, yelled at my kids to "come downstairs now! The fireflies are out!" and were were chasing them through the neighborhood.

It is amazing how something so small can bring so much joy!

Have a good weekend,
Mary
