Park of the Week: Platte River Playground

By Mary Monahan July 29, 2021

You told us to go to the new playground at Platte River and wow! It is one of the biggest playgrounds that I have ever seen with a zipine, multi-level playgrounds, swings, imaginative play areas and more.

We love going to Platte River to walk to the waterfall, play in the river and enjoy the splash pad. We even bring our four-legged friend which is a big plus too. Nebraska Game and Parks recently added an ENORMOUS playground. I can't even begin to describe how big this playground is; there are multiple levels of it going on and on and on.

There are two playgrounds. The top playground is a treehouse structure and at the bottom of the levels is a "tot lot" playground, made for those who are younger. At both areas you will find swings and slides.

Scattered throughout the levels are animals including a turtle, an eagle and more.

The nature imaginative play areas are so much fun. Kids could spend hours exploring and playing here. There is a lot of sand at this playground. If you pack sand toys your kids will be busy.

Everyone's favorite part of the park was the huge zipline!

There are bathrooms across the street, plenty of parking and a shelter with multiple picnic tables.

Our takeaway: This is a park absolutely worth visiting! I would plan a half day or full day and really explore Platte River Park. While the park is free you do need a park pass to enter. What time of day to go? There is very little shade during the late afternoon/early evening and my kids got hot. If you go on a hot day, I'd recommend a different time than we went. This park is phenomenal and I'm so excited for Nebraskans to get such a great park.
