We took our second family trip to Kansas City over Spring Break and tried out new places and one favorite! Thinking of going? Here are our reviews of activities to do there.
Money Museum-The Money Museum is in the Federal Reserve of Kansas City and within walking distance of the Crown Center and Science City. Admission is free.
The Money Museum is small, it is one big room basically, but they have crammed a lot in there. It was my husband and my favorite place that we visited. You get to see a $100,000 bill, try to lift a gold brick (shockingly heavy), attempt to pick out the counterfeit bills, design your own money and see inside the big vault.
Kaleidoscope
Kaleidoscope is a FREE art-making space for kids ages 14 and under and their caretaker. It is also near the Crown Center. This was my 7 year old's favorite activity. It is open-ended creativity. Kids aren't going in being told what their final project is-they just create. Their is a puzzle making machine which was the big hit with our group. You can make a reservation or walk in and hope to get a spot. We were able to walk in.
Fritz's-For years we have heard that we needed to eat at Fritz's. A miniature train delivers your food. I was worried that my kids would be too young, that we missed the boat. Nope! We were all enthralled by the little train chugging along delivering food to the tables. The food is standard diner food. The line appeared to be super long but it moved fast and down the hall there is a great indoor play area (think the town part of children's museum). So, my husband stood in line and the rest of us went down the hall to the free play area.
Where to stay in KC? Our kids love to swim and stayed at the Embassy Suites in Kansas City Plaza. They have two pools connected by a water fall. One pool is three feet deep and the second is 5-8 feet, it is a dream for kids! Embassy Suites also offer a full breakfast and for families with 2+ kids it is a good deal.
We visited Jack Stack in the Country Club Plazafor our BBQ meal and it was thumbs up from everyone! There is great shopping around the restaurant. You can get a reservation or walk-up which we did and ended up just window shopping for an hour while we waited.
Science City-I LOVE Science City! It is so engaging and great for kids and adults. This was our second time visiting. Tip: You can use your Morrill Hall pass to get in for FREE. To read our full review click here. |
