Summer Reading Program at Lincoln City Libraries

By Vicki Wood May 25, 2023

The Lincoln City Libraries team always looks forward to summer. Our buildings are full of the buzz of excited readers leaving with stacks of books to take them through the next week—or weekend for those speedy readers! Families that read together have the best of all worlds because many of our sponsors support kids, teens, and adults with free and reduced-price food and fun for everyone.

Remember that parents serve as powerful role models for their kids when they encourage the reading habit. Reading over the summer months has been proven to prevent loss of reading and math skills. All reading counts, so please read aloud, find a quiet spot to read on your own, or share an audiobook with the whole family on a road trip. All formats count, and we encourage children and their caregivers to explore and discover all that the library has to offer.

In keeping with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme, All Together Now, we’ve partnered up with 10 other Lincoln organizations to provide the Field Trip Across Lincoln and Beyond Passport at all of our locations starting June 1. Learn more about this exciting opportunity to explore art, nature, and history with your family.

This year, we’re delighted to invite artists age 11 and younger to design a library card. The winning design will be made into cards just in time for Library Card Sign-Up Month in September, 2023. Pick up a form and get complete contest details at your favorite Lincoln City Libraries location.

Summer Reading Challenge registration begins May 26; register at the library, from a desktop at home, or via the Beanstack mobile tracker. Readers who complete the challenge are automatically entered into grand prize drawings for $250.00 in free ticket credit for any show at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts. Log your progress on Beanstack and you earn tickets towards drawings for $100 prize packages to area businesses. Free tickets to Saltdogs games and pool passes are added perks for participating. Check out our Summer Reading Challenge site for more information here.

Be sure to check out our Around Town Storytimes at various community sites every Friday— Memorial Stadium anyone? In addition to our traditional storytimes, check the schedule for Wee Workouts, Music and Movement, and Sensory Storytime (for children who may need a little extra attention or a more controlled environment). With daytime, evening, and weekend options, every family can find a time that works best for them.

Our Library Lineup has the full calendar of free events for all ages.

This summer can be your best ever when you make the library one of your regular stops. Celebrate the joy of reading, explore your interests and have fun as a family!
