Road Trip Review: Meow Wolf in Denver, CO

By Mary Monahan July 24, 2023

How do you describe Meow Wolf? It is billed as immersive art but I felt more like I had been put into another world. It is beautiful and ugly and it is a maze and a mystery and there is so much to see/hear/feel. You can see why no one can really explain it when you ask about it!

Meow Wolf is located in a few places in the US. We went in Denver, CO during a long weekend. Advance registration is suggested and admission starts at $45/person. There is a paid parking lot right next to Meow Wolf so you don't need to worry about finding parking.

You can spend for 3-4 hours exploring Meow Wolf. We were there almost four hours before we got hungry and left for lunch. Additionally, you can pay a little extra for a QPass ($3) which turns your trip into a quest (we did not). When I asked other guests who were doing it if they recommended it, they said, "I'm still really confused but it adds another layer to it."

We took our children (ages 7, 10 and 12 at the time) and there were lots of other kids there. I'm so glad that we went as a family because I think kids see the world so differently than adults. Without them, we would have missed a lot of the exhibit. They are innately curious and they would pull us into areas where we swore we had seen everything and we hadn't.

You cannot bring food or strollers into Meow Wolf so if you have someone who gets tired walking, you'll be carrying them a lot. If you have someone in your family that it is sensory sensitive, I would spend some time reading their site. It could be incredibly overwhelming. It was overwhelming for me-the lights, the sounds, all of the people. Meow Wolf isn't scary but it is strange and it could definitely scare younger children. Meow Wolf does offer sensory bags for participants may have a sensitivity to certain aspects of their experience.

Tweens and teens will love to take photos at Meow Wolf-it is a selfie dream. Meow Wolf is my oldest child's favorite museum that we have ever been to. She loved it!

Everyone's favorite room was the The Perplexiplex, a "surreal arboretum that guests can discover and explore over the course of four scenes." It is outside of the main exhibit and we spent an hour in this area.

I would recommend going to Meow Wolf; it was an experience that none of will forget and something totally different and out of our comfort zones!
