In the preschool reflection and metacognitive monitoring (PRaMM) study, we are interested in how preschoolers aged 3 to 5 years become self-aware of their own performance on basic problem-solving tasks and in how cultural and family experiences influence children’s confidence in their learning and problem solving.
We ask families to come to the university for about 2 hours.
Parents/primary caregivers and children work together on some problem-solving tasks and then we ask children to do some computer games and table-top activities with us while parents complete some computer tasks and questionnaires about their family. During one computer task, we ask children to wear an EEG cap, which measures their brain waves. We also ask parents and children to wear a little chest sticker to monitor their heart rates.
It's all completely voluntary and families can opt out at any time. We compensate families $100 for their help and children get a small toy.
