10 FREE Events in August

One reason that I started following Macaroni Kid when I lived in Tucson was because I was searching for free or inexpensive events. My husband and I were on a pretty tight budget and if the event wasn't free, we didn't go but having Macaroni Kid helped to ensure that we weren't just staying at home. We had full, fun and engaging days and I hope that our site helps to provide this for you as well.

Nebraska Football Fan Day-The 2025 Nebraska football team will make its public debut with their annual Fan Day. August 2.

13th Annual Back 2 School Free Haircuts and Backpack Event-Visionary Youth, in partnership with Clyde Malone Community Center, presents the 13th Annual Back2School Free Haircuts & Backpack Event! August 3.

Library Back-to-School Bash- Kids of all ages can make DIY buttons, decorate locker or desk gear, and enjoy games with friends and family. August 7.

Nature at Nightfall-Join us to explore how fascinating nature can be from dusk to nightfall. We will have a wide array of activities going on throughout the evening so there is sure to be something for everyone! August 8.

BGO's Third Annual Community Lake Day-Held at Holmes Lake, this event includes a wide range of free activities for all ages, including fishing, kayaking with Lincoln Paddle Company, campfire cooking, and nature-themed activity booths hosted by incredible partners like Nebraska Game and Parks, Lincoln Parks and Recreation, Audubon Spring Creek Prairie, Lincoln City Libraries, and more! August 8.

Snakes of Nebraska-University of Nebraska-Lincoln herpetologist Dennis Ferraro and his lab will lead a live snake encounter featuring most of Nebraska’s 29 snake species. August 9 and 10.

LNK Outdoor Movie Night: Top Gun Maverick-This year, we’re taking it to the skies with a screening of Top Gun: Maverick! We're inviting local aviation experts to join the fun—with interactive booths, hands-on activities, and more. Plus, the ArtBus LNK will be on-site offering aviation-themed arts and crafts for all ages. August 15.

Pet Station- Kids' Workshops at Lowe's-Mini Builders will create a custom organizer to store pet supplies and help keep their furry friends' space neat and tidy. This family-friendly project teaches kids basic construction skills, organization, responsibility and lets them celebrate their pets. August 16.

Family Day at Sheldon Museum of Art-Sheldon Museum of Art and Lincoln City Libraries partner for an afternoon of family-centered artmaking and storytelling. August 17.

L2L Wordstock 2025-Guests will enjoy unlimited books to take home, food trucks, carnival games, along with engaging stories from local celebrity readers who share our passion for literacy. August 23.
