As the leaves begin to change, there’s no better time to reconnect with nature—and each other—than this fall at Pioneers Park Nature Center. With engaging programs for toddlers, teens, adults, and everyone in between, families can make lasting memories in the great outdoors.
| Hand-in-Hand: Nature for Little Explorers |
Perfect for children ages 2.5 to 7 and a caring adult, the Hand-in-Hand series offers playful 45-minute outdoor sessions featuring guided hikes, nature-based activities, and storytelling. It’s an ideal way to introduce young ones to the wonders of the natural world.
- Dates: Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18, Dec. 16 | 3:00–3:45 p.m.
- Fee: $20/child for the full series (includes adult)

Twilight Treks: Nature After Dark |
Experience the sights and sounds of the prairie as day turns to night. Each Twilight Trek features a different theme—think owls, stars, and stories under the sky. Families can enjoy these guided low-light hikes through trails that feel magical after sunset.

Nature Notes: A Journaling Workshop |
Older kids (12+) and adults can tap into their creative side at the Nature Notes journaling workshop. Learn techniques for observing, sketching, and writing about the natural world. All materials provided—just bring your curiosity!

Prairie Run and Ramble + Wild Fall Festival |
Mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 27, when Pioneers Park hosts its biggest fall celebration! The day begins with the Prairie Run and Ramble, a fun, untimed run/walk with 1- mile, 2.25-mile, and 3.5-mile routes for all ages. Registration is just $10 and includes a festival T-shirt and free wagon ride ticket.
Then stick around for the Wild Fall Festival, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., featuring:
- Free tree giveaway
- Animal meet-and-greets (owls, turtles, snakes and more!)
- Archery, story times, preschool activities
- Wagon rides ($5/person, ages 3+)
- Nature workshops on composting, prairie plants & bison
- Guided walks and historical tours
- Except for the run and wagon rides, all activities are free and open to the public!
