The Nebraska Extension 4-H youth development program is open to all youth ages 5–18. Becoming “Beyond Ready” means being ready to lead, ready to serve, ready to build and ready for life.
An upcoming special event, “Launch Your 4-H Journey,” is a great opportunity to explore your child(ren)’s 4-H journey!

Who: Open to families with youth ages 5–18
What: 4-H staff will present an overview of 4-H and its many opportunities. Several 4-H youth will share their projects (including STEM, art, rabbits, cats, dogs, guinea pig, miniature horse and more). Adults can learn ways they can help youth grow. There also will be free hot dogs, refreshments and fun door prizes.
In Lancaster County, there are three ways to get involved in 4-H:
- Help start a new club.
- Join an existing club.
- Be an independent member.

There are no fees to join 4-H in Lancaster County. 4-H youth can choose from over 50 different hands-on projects to learn, such as photography, rocketry, food & nutrition, woodworking, horticulture, clothing, child development, entrepreneurship, livestock, horse, dog, rabbit and poultry. 4-H projects books are research-based. Many youth choose to showcase their projects at the county and state fairs.
Adam Gabel, member of Little Green Giants 4-H club, says, “4-H has been an incredible opportunity for me to break out of my comfort zone, make new friends and give back to my community. It has positively shaped me to become the person I am today, and I will always remember how 4-H has impacted my life.”
Families are encouraged to help start a new club — which is a lot easier than you may think! 4-H volunteers must be at least age 19 and pass a background check. Local 4-H staff provides guidance and resources to club leaders. In most clubs, members participate in several projects a year. Some 4-H clubs focus on one project, such as rabbits.
