Area: This is a big park and it takes up a swath of Lincoln. It is in centrally located. The playground is off of A Street across from the Lincoln Zoo. There are tennis courts, ball diamond, a playground, basketball courts, walking trails, restrooms, shelters, pavilion and a golf course. This "Park It" will cover the playground area only.
Directions and Parking: To get to the playground area, you will want to enter thru the entrance on A Street (across from the zoo) or from Normal Blvd and 33rd St. Both of those entrances will lead you to parking lots near the playground.
Playground: This playground is enormous. There are two play structures. The smaller playground is designed for younger kids. There are two swings near the younger child playground and they are "baby" swings. There is a large sandbox near that area as well. The large play structure has an incredible amount of slides, climbing walls, tunnels and ladders. It is adjacent to several swings. This playground is relatively new and made of plastic. The ground covering is black mat. It is becomes hot in the summer sun. There are several benches situated around the playground for caretakers to sit down or for kids to take a break.
Bathrooms: The bathrooms are near the playgrounds, by the sandbox.
Other: This is a great park for a picnic or large gathering. There are picnic tables nearby and covered pavilions. Many walking trails surround the playground and are a nice play to take a stroller.
Overall: Kids can spend hours at this playground but it is enormous and there is no central area for a parent to watch a child. If you have more than one child and they go in different directions it can be a stressful morning running from one end of the playground to the other. We pack lots of snack when we go because my kids never want to leave. On summer Sunday evenings you can enjoy this park and then go to a Lincoln Municipal Band Concert. They play in John Shildneck Memorial Bandshell, very near the playground.
