Union Plaza

21 St & Q StLincoln, NE 68502 Google Map

Area: One of Lincoln's most unconventional parks, Union Plaza offers a climbing structure, trails and lots of fun hidden surprises like animal statues scattered throughout the area. The trails are always packed with runners, walkers and bikers. Kids will love discovering all the hidden animals. This park is beautifully landscaped and depending on the time of year, there is a gorgeous flower garden which attracts pollinators. Tip: the climbing structure does not have a platform at the top. It is open so kids have to climb up, climb across and then slide down. It is slightly terrifying to watch the first few times

Directions and Parking: The park is off of 21st St and O St. You can park in the small parking lot near the playground or by the Hub.

Playground: This is not a normal park. There is no "playground." Instead, it there is the climbing structure, paths, hills and statues. Despite the fact that it does not have a playground, my kids could and have stayed for hours. It inspires imagination and independence. Kids love to follow the trails, track the giant turtle and imagine themselves the king of the castle.

Bathrooms: There are public bathrooms across the street, next to the Hub.

Other: There is so much to explore in this area! If you bring your bikes and follow the trail you'll find yourself at Trago Park. There are very small picnic tables by the climbing structure.

Overall: If you have children that wander or if you are watching more than one child, there aren't good sight lines here. I go with friends and we watch different groups. We love this park and go often. It never disappoints!
