Area: This is a big park, I don't even think park is the right word. It is over 650 acres and there is something for everyone. If you are looking for a quick break from the city, drive over to Pioneers Park.
Directions and Parking: Pioneers Park is located on the Northwest side of town. There are two entrances, one is off of Van Dorn and one is off of S. Coddington Avenue. If you are looking for an exact address, enter in 3201 S Coddington Avenue.
Playground: Nature is your playground at Pioneers but if you are looking for an actual playground, there is one. It has swings, ride-ons, slides and monkey bars. There isn't much shade on the playground, I don't recommend on hot days.
Bathrooms: The bathrooms are near the playgrounds.
Other: Want to see wildlife? Pioneers Park has bison, elk, white-tailed deer and several species of bird. Feel like hiking? There are eight miles of hiking trails that wind through the park. Even on cold, wintry days it is a great place to visit and explore the indoor Nature Center. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Sundays from noon to 5 pm during the summer months. Starting in the fall, facilities close at 4:30pm. Open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Admission is free. In the winter, Pioneers Park is home to famous sledding hills.
Overall: Pioneers Park is not just for kids, it is for everyone. Plan on spending half of a day just being in nature.
