Do you have a child that is struggling with reading? Shelli A. Cook, MS, CCC-SLP, offers a workshop for teachers, therapists, tutors and parents. Structured literacy interventions are helpful to all and needed for those who struggle with dyslexia, and reading, writing and spelling.

Practicum included! Practice what you are learning.

This methodology is appropriate for individual, small and whole group instruction. We also incorporate speech-to-print strategies, for those who need more than Orton-Gillingham.

What is Structured Literacy? What is the Science of Reading? Dyslexia law?

Do you have questions? Then this is the class for you! We will be within the guidelines of the Nebraska State Department of Education's "Dyslexia Guide" to build an understanding of dyslexia, to dispel myths, to learn about current Nebraska reading laws and what this means for teachers and students. You will learn to informally assess and teach using Structured Literacy techniques.

The course demonstrates how to build phonological awareness, phonetic decoding and encoding skills, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension in reading.

About the Instructor: 

Shelli A. Cook, MS, CCC-SLP received her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and her B.S. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has over 25 years of experience as a clinician in various settings including public schools, private schools, and homeschools, as well as hospitals and rehabilitation centers. Currently Shelli works in private practice with a focus on assessment and intervention for dyslexia, and has done presentations and trainings on Orton-Gillingham, as well as speech-to-print interventions. She also enjoys overseas mission work experiences. She is a member of ASHA, NSHLA, is a former Vice President of the Nebraska Dyslexia Assocation.
