Looking for things to do with your kids this chilly winter break? Work through our A to Z list.
Art is always a popular activity for kids (and adults). Get a range of coloring books and settle in for a cozy afternoon. Pop-in to make something at Makit Takit, Art Legends, or Paint Yourself Silly. You can also attend a class at Corky Canvas AR Workshop Lincoln and the LUX Center.
Be kind. Spread holiday cheer after the holidays by making Blessing Bags for the Homeless, baking cookies for neighbors or by simply donating items that you no longer need or use. Or by filling up a Little Free Pantry.
Camp is happening for parents who are looking for childcare. Click here for a list of camps in Lincoln.
Dinosaur and putt putt golf. It is a win-win! Check out Prehistoric Putt Putt, an indoor mini golf course.
Eat somewhere new. Check out a chain that is local to Lincoln!
Frosty the Snowman. Get ready for your snowman by making a little kit. (Then your kids won't use *your* gloves to decorate him/her.)
Gingerbread. Who says gingerbread houses are just for Christmas? You can make one for New Year's too!
Huskers made a Bowl Game! Watch it on Saturday, December 28th.
Ice skating-you can go indoors our outside. Click here for our full list.
Jammies Day! Pick a day with your family to stay in your pajamas all day, watch movies, do puzzles, read books. We do an annual Puzzle Day each year when we do all the puzzles in the house and it is one of everyone's favorite days. We usually reserve Puzzle Day for one of the coldest days of the year, which is happening right now.
Kwanzaa-Learn more about this holiday.
Library-Our libraries are offering so many great events over break. Visit our calendar to see events.
Museum-Go to a new museum. We visited the Durham Museum two years ago and loved it. What about the Edgerton Science Center, the Omaha Children's Museum or the Kiewit Luminarium? They are all indoors.
New Years Eve events are fun! Lots of options around town for the younger crowd.
Organize your closets. Old with the old and in with some space!
Podcast. There are great podcasts for families. Our favorites are: Circle Round, Species and Radio Lab for Kids.
Quiet Time is a much-needed break during the holidays-read a book, a magazine or take a nap.
River Front-in Omaha is incredible! It is such a thoughtful, well-planned space! I walked through this evening and saw families eating, kids running, kids playing soccer, people skating, dogs at the dog park and it is lit up for the holidays.
Sled down a big hill at Holmes Lake or Pioneers Park (if it snows). Looking for good sledding spots? Here are our favorites.
Take a trip down memory lane and look at baby photos of your kids or you! Children love to hear stories about them as children and love to tease parents about their baby pictures (hello, 1980s perm).
UNL Outdoors Adventures Center-Children 5 years and older can climb at the Climbing Center at the UNL Outdoor Adventures Center! Come check out the Climbing Center at the UNL Outdoor Adventures Center. Day Passes and Try-It Climbs are $15.
Visit Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo. Even if the weather is cold you can spend the day enjoying the many indoor exhibits including the Desert Dome, the Lied Jungle and the Aquarium.
Winter walks are wonderful. Visit Nine Mile Prairie, Pioneers or Spring Creek Prairie for a beautiful (and hopefully warmish) winter walk. All of these places listed are free as well.
X marks the spot. Winter birding is a great winter outdoor activity. Schramm Education Center will be having their Christmas Bird Count on December 27.
Yak it up with an old friend. Remember that great friend that you promised to keep in touch with? Call them up and catch up.
Zoo Lights. I love Zoo Lights at the Lincoln Children's Zoo and they have outdone themselves yet again this year adding more and more and more lights!
